Tennis in the United States is played on three kinds of places: public park courts run by a city or county, member clubs and country clubs with their own pros and leagues, and commercial tennis centers that sell court time by the hour. Public courts are usually free and first come, first served, with a posted limit (often 60-90 minutes when others are waiting); busier cities run online reservation systems with a small fee and a permit for the season. Indoor courts are rented by the hour and booked days ahead in winter. Most facilities are hard courts; clay is common in the Southeast and at private clubs, and grass is rare. Lights extend play into the evening at many parks, sometimes with a coin or app-operated switch.

Bronx is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Bronx follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Van Cortland Tennis Courts are not really adequate for tennis now. They need to be resurfaced. However they are a perfect venue for Bike 101, a program for teaching children over 6 and adults how to ride a two wheeled bicycle. My grandson (7) learned to ride without training wheels in the two hour session. He was absolutely elated and left full of confidence saying, βI know how ti ride a bike!!!β Bike 101 has sessions all over NYC. I recommend it highly.

Great place. While some of it is falling into disrepair, I'm sure the Horace Mann School will come and patch it up soon. It's almost always empty, and in the mornings it is quite quiet and peaceful. During covid they don't have permits so its an inclusive to those who don't have them.

It's a great place has a hole. But the overall atmosphere has change. Example is the tennis courts. It's sad to see courts that were recently given a face lift in the shape that they are now. An it's all due to carelessness of the quality of people who come from different places an allow there kids to play in the courts an tear up the nets an everything in sight. Such a beautiful place overall wasted due to lowlifes.
